Short answer: there is no universal total. Build two columns, startup and recurring, then replace every assumption with a dated quote, contract rate, selected resource, scoped task, or explicit estimate of your own time. These are planning heuristics, not a market-price dataset.

How much is FiveM itself vs running a server?

Separate the client cost from the cost of operating a server. FiveM, the client you play on, costs nothing: you download it directly from fivem.net with no purchase step, and the only thing you must own is your own copy of GTA V. On the server side, the baseline is also free: the official FiveM docs instruct you to register a free license key on the Cfx.re Portal, and the FXServer software itself costs nothing to download and run. So how much is FiveM? Zero, at both ends of the connection. The worksheet starts with the server you build around that platform: hosting, selected resources, applicable fees, and time.

The six cost lines to quote

  • Hosting. Record dated quotes for the region and service level you are considering, then test the selected option against your actual resources and controlled load.
  • Cfx.re subscription. The default OneSync Infinity limit is 48 players without Element Club. Budget for a suitable paid tier if you need more slots or subscription features such as custom clothing streaming, including on a smaller server. Check the official slot limits and subscription features and confirm the current price and applicable tax on the Cfx.re Portal. Requirements checked September 10, 2026.
  • Scripts. Inventory each required free, one-time, and recurring resource. Do not estimate this line from another server's stack.
  • Tebex and payment fees. If you sell anything, copy the applicable rates and conditions from your own current agreements.
  • Security tooling. Define the controls your threat model requires and record current quotes for any paid product you select.
  • Time. Estimate setup, testing, maintenance, support, and incident work from named tasks. State the hourly value used.

Day one is a snapshot. Ownership is a stream.

A launch quote is a snapshot. Hosting, recurring assets, fees, support, and maintenance continue after launch, so keep a separate recurring column and review it whenever the stack or agreements change.

A worked budget example

Illustrative amounts only: the numbers below are fictional inputs to demonstrate the calculation, not provider quotes, FiveMCoach prices or a recommended hosting size. Replace them with dated prices for your own stack. No player count is implied.

Example costOne-time cashMonthly cash
Selected resource purchases€120€0
Setup work paid to a provider€80€0
Hosting€0€40
Backup storage€0€10
Selected recurring resources€0€20
Example subtotal€200€70

With those fictional inputs, first-month cash is €200 + €70 = €270. Three months require €200 + (3 × €70) = €410 before any additional license tier, taxes, transaction fees, support or contingency. These are subtotals; add every applicable line before deciding what you can afford. Do not multiply the one-time purchases by three.

Keep unpaid owner time separate: an assumed eight setup hours valued at €20 per hour adds €160 of planning cost, not another €160 invoice. For an annual subscription, show both the amount due now and its monthly equivalent. A €120 annual bill is €10 per month for comparison, but still needs €120 cash on its payment date.

For each real quote, save the source URL, quote date, currency, tax treatment, billing period, renewal price and what is included. Use the official FiveM hosting page and your Cfx.re account to verify the entitlement your planned configuration requires. Check your provider and Tebex agreements for their actual charges. Recalculate when the resource inventory or terms change.

Hosting: compare current quotes against one test plan

This page has no current provider-quote sample, so it publishes no market price band. Ask shortlisted providers for dated quotes covering the same region, service level, backups, support, and billing period. Record what is and is not included.

Size from the framework, resources, database, region, and controlled-load target you actually intend to run. Use Resmon and txAdmin to record the baseline before changing capacity; more expensive hosting is not evidence that a resource-level bottleneck is fixed.

Scripts are a stream, not a one-time purchase

Separate one-time purchases from recurring licenses. For every resource, record its current price, renewal terms, included updates, dependencies, support boundary, and replacement plan. Estimate update work as a named task rather than inferring it from catalog-wide trends.

Compare the exact resource inventory with a scoped custom build with source-code, support, and acceptance boundaries. Neither path is assumed cheaper until both cover the same requirements.

Security controls and tooling

Define the server-side controls, monitoring, response process, and any paid detection layer required by your threat model. We partner with ZeroTrust. That commercial relationship is disclosed and is not comparative performance evidence. If you select a paid product, record its current quote, renewal terms, support boundary, and tested performance cost.

Staff and moderation: record the operating work

List the moderation and support tasks your operating plan requires: tickets, disputes, ban appeals, whitelist reviews, incidents, and restarts. Estimate hours and any payroll from that task list. Volunteer time is still capacity, but this page does not claim a universal rank or hourly total for it.

Store fees: the cost of making money

If your agreements apply platform or payment-processing fees, record the exact rates, conditions, refunds, and dispute treatment from those agreements. Apply them to your own forecast instead of assuming how this line compares with hosting.

Record rework before another purchase

Buying scripts before reproducing a symptom can introduce duplicate systems or additional dependencies. Record the framework, resource, configuration, and reproduction case first, then compare the purchase with the scoped integration work it requires.

A mismatched purchase can add replacement and integration work beyond its listed price. Record those tasks in the worksheet. That is what the Server X-Ray checklist helps document: an audit of what you already run before the next purchase adds another variable. If you want the audit done for you, start with the free server checkup and review the resulting next-step options.

A total without dated cash sources and explicit time assumptions is not a budget yet.

DIY hours vs done-for-you: the honest math

For DIY, break framework setup, resource configuration, data work, testing, documentation, and rework allowance into named tasks. Estimate the hours and multiply by the value you assign to that time. The result is your planning assumption, not a measured market average.

For that comparison, our scoped Enterprise implementation is qualified and quoted against a written scope. The same process can scope one missing system through an implementation request . Compare that written scope, responsibilities, and acceptance checks with the same DIY task inventory. Neither is the default answer.

Worksheet lines by stage

  • Testing with friends. Quote the chosen host and list every selected resource, backup, and testing task even when its cash price is zero.
  • Public launch. Add the validated hosting option, selected resource licenses, security controls, backups, support plan, launch tasks, and recurring terms.
  • Monetized server. Add agreement-specific store and payment fees, refund or dispute operations, staffing commitments, and the resource and support terms required by the offer.

How to keep the bill sane

  • Size hosting from the tested workload, not an imagined future total.
  • Audit the stack for overlap before each purchase.
  • Record artifact and resource versions, then test updates against a rollback plan.
  • Price your own hours into every DIY decision and state the estimate.
  • Keep acquisition work in its own measured budget; use the FiveM server promotion guide.
